The object of the WebQuest is to develop reading comprehension of factual text through researching and recording scientific information using technology in a team situation. This synthesis and the navigation of the web requires deductive reasoning and cooperative skills.

The National Educational Technology Standards for Students (NETS) addressed in this WebQuest are:

Performance Indicators (preK-2):
P.I.5: Work cooperatively and collaboratively with peers, family members, and others when using technology in the classroom.
P.I.9: Use technology resources (e.g., puzzles, logical thinking programs, writing tools, digital cameras, drawing tools) for problem solving communication, and illustration of thoughts, ideas, and stories.

Performance Indicators (grades 3-5):
P.I.5: Apply productivity/mulimedia tools and peripherals to support personal productivity, group collaboration, and learning throughout the curriculum.

The Delaware Standards for Student Achievement addresses are:

English/Language Arts Standard I: Performance Indicator: Written Communication

Writers will produce examples that illustrate the following discourse classifications:
      By the completion of Grade 3, students will be able to write
         3. argumentative and persuasive (audience oriented) texts that
              a. begin to consider the needs of the audience;
              b. communicate a clear-cut position on an issue;
              c. support the position with relevant information, which could include
                    personal opinions and examples;
              d. exhibit evidence of reasoning.
