Process
1. You
will be assigned to a Task Force with two other classmates.
2.
Your Task Force will print out three Data
Collection Sheets.
3.
You are now ready to read about the different insect being considered for
our new state insect. Have each teammate choose a different insect form
the chart below. To do your research, click on one of the links listed
under your insects. Read the information and make your notes on your data
collection sheet.
4.
When you have finished reading the first website, view another website
link for your insect. Read the information and decide if there is any new
information that should be added to your data collection sheet.
5.
After you and each of your Task Force members has researched all the links
to your insects, you will need to sit together and share what each of you
found out about the insects.
6.
Your Task Force will need to make a decision on which insect you are going
to recommend to the Governor (the teacher) for our state insect. Print
out the State Insect
Recommendation Sheet when your Task Force
has made a decision.
7.
Together with your Task Force members fill out the State
Insect Recommendation Sheet.This will help
your group write the letter of recommendation to the Governor.
8.
Now it is time to create a table so your Task Force can take an opinion
poll. We will create this as a class lesson, print it out, then you will
take it back to your classroom for homework.
9.
Your Task Force will need to ask 10 people which insect they think should
be our state insect. Make a tally mark in the correct row to show each
person's answer. Count the tally marks and write the totals in the correct
box to have your opinion poll ready to bring to the computer lab next week.
10.
Did your opinion poll show the same insect that your Task Force selected?
You will need to say something about the opinion poll in your letter to
the governor.
11.
Your Task Force will need to sit together and write the letter in a word
processor. This is a persuasive letter to convince the governor that your
Task Force has researched information, taken a poll, and has made
a good decision. Remember to use what you have learned in your classroom
about writing letters. Save your Task Force's letter and print it out to
take it back to your classroom to edit. Make sure your Task Force edits
it before next computer lab.
12.
Open the file with your saved letter and do the editing. Proof read carefully!
Save the letter again then print out 4 copies of the letter.
13.
Now your Task Force will need to create a slide to use as a very large
poster. We will have a lesson on making the slide in our presentation package.
When your Task Force has proof read and edited the slide the teacher will
help you save it and print out a copy of it.
14.
Print out and use the Task
Force Checklist to
make sure you have completed all the steps of your task.
15.
Print out the self-evaluation
sheet. (See Evaluation)
16.
Prepare to make your presentation to the class. Your Task Force will read
the letter while you show your slide. Remember - you are trying to be persuasive!
17.
Hand in all your work for evaluation.
